Your body is loudly protesting
The Brain does not feel pain, but when there is great fatigue stress, overwhelm and exhaustion the brain will have the body produce pain.
That is the case of a client recently. Everything hurt. She had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Every move I had done with the normal Bowen Technique of skin slack apply light challenge and roll over the muscle or ligament was tender. She felt better in her body in general after each of the two sessions a week apart but there appeared to be heaviness in her movement. After the second session she exclaimed that her head felt so heavy. So I suggested for the next session that I would like to apply the Fascia Bowen technique. A slightly different way activating the body with skin stretch moves with no down-ward challenge pressure. The skin stretch moves are applied where the dermatome lines are. They follow the nerve pathways. She arrived for her 3rd session a week later looking very wary and tired. She was heading toward empty nest syndrome, as she was helping her daughter pack for University.
I applied the normal Bowen moves 1&2 of the lower back. The 2 minute pause then applied the Bowen moves to the sacral/ gluteal area from midline following the line of the dermatomes at an angle to the sides of the body. No downward pressure is used. Just skin slack one way and then maintaining skin contact taking that skin all the way in the other direction, then allowing the skin to settle at its resting position before making another move a centimeter further along the dermatome.
After 4 rows of moves on the left side sacral bone to lateral leg, I asked my client how it felt. Her reply: "It feels strangely good" I continued on the other side. Paused for 2 minutes to allow the body to respond, and then did upper body area from just below shoulder blade level with the same skin stretch moves 4 rows, but after doing this I did 2 cross directional moves between the neck and shoulder joint. and allowed for the pause and rest and for the body to digest and respond to the stimulus.
Her legs were restless, so I did sets of skin stretch moves from the out side of the hip down the outside of the legs to the ankles.
Turning onto lying on her back I applied the same light touch skin stretch moves to the base of the neck, then applied some typical bowtech moves to the base of skull.
I applied the skin stretch technique in rows from the hair line going back over the head and as far as I could to where her head was resting on the bed. During this she fell asleep.
When my client was invited to get up she exclaimed "I feel no pain" She sat up with a big smile and turned to the side of the therapy table and stretched up tall and moved from side to side. "its not painful to turn and my head feels so much lighter" she said.
The body has calmed, the body has rested, the body has vitality again.
