Back pain and Bowen Therapy

Back pain can have many causes, and often it is due to a combination of factors rather than a single issue.

Common Causes of Back Pain

  • Poor posture from prolonged sitting, computer work, or mobile phone use.

  • Muscle strain or ligament sprain caused by lifting, twisting, overexertion, or sudden movements.

  • Herniated or bulging discs that may place pressure on nearby nerves. [handsonphysio.com.my]

  • Arthritis and joint degeneration, which can lead to stiffness, inflammation, and ongoing discomfort.

  • Structural conditions such as scoliosis or spinal stenosis. [handsonphysio.com.my]

  • Stress and tension, which can contribute to muscle tightness and pain.

How Bowen Therapy May Help

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique that uses precise rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. Practitioners believe these movements help encourage the body's natural healing response and promote relaxation through the various connective tissue layers in the body.  They show signs of improved blood flow with reddening of the skin, the sense of softening and warming by the client.

People often seek Bowen Therapy for:

  • Back and neck pain

  • Muscle tension

  • Reduced mobility

  • Stress-related discomfort

  • General relaxation and wellbeing

Some studies have reported improvements in pain levels, mobility, and function following Bowen Therapy sessions, particularly for non-specific low back pain. However, scientific research is still limited, and more high-quality studies are needed to fully confirm its effectiveness.  A project is soon to begin with Australia and New Zealand called B-Eager Research.

How Bowen Therapy with Louise supports you.

Louise provides a gentle, holistic approach tailored to your individual needs. At the first session she will go through the Health questionnaire that hopefully you managed to fill in online. Assessment of your movement limitations, Assessment of body posture and balance.  Muscles tests help to narrow the cause of your discomfort and formulate a plan.  Follow-up assessments are done to note structural changes, new symptoms, and any responses to the last session.  These help Louise to identity what each treatment needs to entail from the vast array of therapeutic Bowen Procedures that have specific effects on the body.   Louise will then carefully apply each Bowen Therapy move.  Each move done is assessed for how it felt and monitored for change.  Louise aims to:

  • Release muscle tension and tightness

  • Encourage relaxation of the nervous system

  • Improve comfort and ease of movement

  • Support the body's natural healing processes

  • Have you feel more balanced and mobile

  • Help formulate a faster recovery plan

Important: Persistent, severe, or worsening back pain should always be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional, especially if accompanied by numbness, weakness, unexplained weight loss, or changes in bladder or bowel function.
